This means that your previously warmed air, which has naturally risen, is drawn back down to floor level, where it is useful again - instead of being wasted at ceiling height.
Why Use ''Smooth Warmth'' Elkatherm Models ?
Modern Elkatherm electric radiators warm directly, efficiently and evenly by maintaining a 20 minute heat reserve within the slim thermal core centre sections of each unit - just like the water does in a conventional boiler heated ''wet'' system. They are not old style night storage heaters.
As soon as the desired temperature is reached, the electric radiator stops drawing power. The radiator however remains constantly warm, and will only use the energy required to maintain your set room temperature.

Feeder
Assures the power supply for the electric heating. The cable is 3 m long and has a safety plug. Also possible in connection with plug thermostats.
Integrated thermostat
With the integrated thermostat you can switch on the electric heating and set the desired temperature. An integrated sensor constantly monitors the room temperature so that the device switches on and off as needed. The integrated thermostat is installed in the side panel of the heater.
Plug thermostat
By means of these thermostats the power supply is connected and interrupted in order to maintain the desired room temperature. For that purpose the feed of the heater leads to an adaptor plug which is connected to the thermostat and is fed over a conventional household socket.
Room thermostat
Set the desired temperature with the room thermostat. The thermostat has an integrated sensor which checks the room temperature and thereby keeps it at the desired level. The room thermostat is connected to the electric heating and power supply by means of a surface mount or flush mount line.
Digital clock thermostat (surface mount)
The digital clock thermostat enables you to set up to 6 response times per day with temperatures suiting your personal habits. In this way the room temperature can be regulated automatically depending on the room temperature according to response times and temperatures. Once the temperature sinks below the set value, the electric heating switches on.

With this you can easily program the desired heating phases. A radio transmitter with receiver regulates the preselected temperature. FAQ – THE MOST IMPORTANT ANSWERS ON THE SUBJECT OF HEATING WITH ELECTRICITY
- What is the difference between an ELKAtherm surface storage heater and a conventional night storage heater?
Night storage heaters and ELKAtherm surface storage heaters have only one thing in common: they are powered by the same energy, namely, electricity. Unlike night storage heaters, however, each tapped kWh is converted 100% by an ELKAtherm electric heater into thermal heat. Moreover ELKAtherm storage heaters reload if necessary – also by day. Once the preset temperature is reached, the heater disconnects itself from the electricity. If the room temperature sinks, the surface storage heater reconnects for a few minutes to the mains after which the power supply is again switched-off. As a consequence, not only is energy consumption lower, regulation is better as well. With a night storage heater, you already have to decide today whether you want to heat tomorrow – an ELKAtherm surface storage heater can be regulated “punctually” like any oil or gas heater.
In addition, a night storage heater is an air heating which transmits heat via the roundabout route of the room air. Moreover the air needs to be heated far above the temperature of the solid bodies in the room, which is likewise an unnecessary consumption of energy. To achieve an even distribution of air in the room, it is circulated by a fan. This gives rise to a draft above the floor in the direction of the heater; warm air hovers uselessly under the ceiling and dust is constantly swirled-up, something alarming not only for the health of allergic persons.
- Do ELKAtherm surface storage heaters have a fan?
No, ELKAtherm electric heaters do not need a fan. The extensive fireclay stones give rise to a highly effective emission of long-wave heat rays which spread-out uniformly across the room. Thus practially no temperature gradient develops between floor and ceiling and the feeling of warmth is as comfortable as with a tiled stove.
- Do I need high-voltage current?
No. You can connect an ELKAtherm electric heater to the existing power network.
- How high is the consumption of electricity?
For normally insulated rooms a yearly consumption of 75 – 125 kWh pro m² heated living space can be expected. The consumption of electricity, however, depends on many different factors: the insulation of the building, personal ventilation and heating behavior, location of the building, state of the windows and much more.
- What connection power is needed for what room size?
For normally insulated rooms, 50 Watts pro m³ cubic content are sufficient as a rule.
- What are the possibilities for setup?
Ideally, an ELKAtherm surface storage heater should be set up directly under the window on the wall. As an option, you can get the heater on rollers or feet so you can easily put the electric heater in your place of choice.
- Do I need off-peak electricity?
No. Many energy providers offer, however, favorable special rates which enable you to further reduce the monthly costs.
- Do I need a separate electricity meter?
No, unless you choose a special heating rate with your electricity provider which is separately billed.
- Can I heat my new house completely with electricity?
Yes. You´re not only spared a basement boiler room. The initial investment costs, too, are below those of an oil or gas heater; moreover electric heating is completely maintenance-free. For hot water, we recommend electric storage tanks or continuous-flow water heaters.
- Can I heat my old building with electricity?
Yes, however, you do have to make sure that appropriate line capacities are on hand.
- Are ELKAtherm surface storage heaters asbestos-free?
Yes, our electric heaters are made of scratch-proof, powder-coated sheet steel and contain exclusively heat-storing fireclay stones.
- Can I replace my old night storage heaters with ELKAtherm surface storage heaters?
Yes. You can even use the old power lines of your night storage heater; however, you need a 24-hour electricity rate.
