Extractor hood, ventilation system and open fire: in harmony with safety
Today, modern buildings are not only highly insulated, many components also ensure a cozy feeling of wellbeing. For example, the room air is exchanged via a system and in the kitchen the extractor hood transports the moisture and odors outside. If a fire in the living room provides cozy warmth at the same time, the individual devices can affect each other in their mode of operation. The reason: ventilation systems and extractor hoods with an external connection generate negative pressure - just like indoor air-dependent stoves and fireplaces that draw the combustion air from the installation room.
Normally, the simultaneous operation of all of these facilities is not a problem. Unless the extractor hood is working at maximum level for a longer period of time or the ventilation system is set too high. In these cases, the devices suck too much air from the rooms and negative pressure is created. One possible consequence: smoke can escape from the chimney system.
Electronic monitoring - safe and convenient
To ensure that the chimney pleasure is always safe and comfortable, we have developed electronic monitoring for our combustion systems. And already in the second generation. The "Spartherm vacuum switching interface" - abbreviated to S-USI II - switches on automatically as soon as the flames are lit in the fireplace. The pressure conditions in the installation room are then monitored during the entire operation and all relevant data are shown on a display. In the event of a malfunction, the electronic monitoring system automatically switches off the ventilation system or the extractor hood. The result: the negative pressure decreases, a possible escape of the flue gases is prevented.
The device is maintenance-free and self-calibrating and uses intelligent software to compensate for pressure fluctuations and sensitive responses. The S-USI II can be used universally for our wood-burning and tiled stoves as well as heating fireplaces and can also be easily integrated into existing systems.
The differential pressure switch S-USI II is only intended for use in the following fireplaces:
• Fireplace inserts for solid fuels according to DIN EN 13229
• Stoves for solid fuels according to DIN EN 13240
• Stoves for solid fuels according to DIN 12815
• Storage fireplaces for solid fuels according to DIN 15250
• Basic ovens according to TROL
The fireplaces can be designed depending on the ambient air or also independently of the ambient air. The use of the S-USI II is only permitted on single chimneys.
