FAQ Bioethanol

QUESTIONS ON THE SAFETY OF BIOETHANOL FIREPLACES

What is bioethanol?
Bio-ethanol is absolute alcohol. It is produced by fermentation / fermentation of sugar, originally from agricultural or forestry products, mainly sugar cane, corn, potatoes or grain (wheat). Legal regulations prohibit the sale of pure ethanol to prevent abuse. Through appropriate additives, the bio-ethanol is made inedible for personal consumption and brought to the market as denatured ethanol. Advantages over wood fire: real fire without ashes, soot, dirt and you do not have to store wood. During the combustion process, heat, water vapor and CO2 are released. The amount of water vapor and carbon dioxide correspond to the exhaled air - so for people completely harmless, as long as you forget the ventilation of the room! We always recommend to pay attention to a very good quality of the bio-ethanol, in order to avoid impairments of the health and contamination of the rooms. Consumption per hour about 0.5 liters. Further information can be found in the product descriptions.

Function?
Thanks to the burning of bioethanol in the bio-fireplaces offered by us, you can now enjoy open fire without much effort.
You do not have to worry about cleaning, wood storage, permits and chimney sweep fees. The bio-fireplaces are non-approved and can be installed in all rooms. It should be noted that smaller rooms are always well ventilated, either through open doors to other rooms or by briefly ventilating with an open window.
By adding ceramic logs or pebbles, the flame image is even more alive and very similar to a gas u. Wood fire. Electric fireplaces can not offer that. Also gel chimneys do not offer the beautiful flame picture as it is possible with good burners with bio ethanol. Above all, the gel fuel smells unpleasant. Protected from rain, the design fires can also be used outdoors. Use in hotels, restaurants, offices and business premises as well as in public areas is possible under consideration of the respective valid fire protection regulations.

Is bioethanol dangerous?
As bioethanol is a liquid fuel, caution should always be exercised when handling it. If handled properly, you can eliminate the risks.
Bioethanol is far less dangerous than gasoline, as it ignites only at far higher temperatures.

What can happen when lighting?
Whenever combustible gases develop, it can ignite when ignited. The possibly passing deflagration in a bioethanol burner is only very small because not much gas can form in the burner. The use of a lighter thus precludes the risk of dangerous deflagration. It is advisable to fill the burner almost completely so that there are no cavities where gases can form. It also helps if one puffs before lighting in the burner to escape gases. This is not necessary if the burner has not been used for hours, only if you want to refuel.
Important: NEVER top up with fuel if a flame is still visible and wait at least 20 minutes before refueling to allow the burner to cool.
Also, the fuel should always be filled with the help of a funnel to avoid that fuel is poured next to it. If this should happen anyway, the overflowed fuel must be carefully removed before igniting the fuel.

What to look for?
When buying a bioethanol fireplace or burner, pay attention to quality. It is best to buy only products of well-known manufacturers. Some manufacturers have even had their products tested voluntarily, eg. For example The Flame, Ruby-Fires, Glammfire, Ebios Fire and Planika. But it would be wrong to rate others as bad.
It is important that the burners are absolutely tight and no fuel can escape. That's why you should first refill each burner before first use to test for leaks. If the burner is not tight, contact your dealer for replacement.

Wall-hung fireplaces?
All our wall models can be safely mounted on any wall. Either intermediate spaces for air circulation, insulating material or a wall distance have been considered.

Leakage of fuel?
If the models are not attached, it may cause the fuel to spill over. Therefore, it is important to find a suitable place for your Dekofeuer.
For models that are attached to the wall or heavy models such as natural stone, the spill is excluded.

Children and pets?
As with any other open fire, such as an open fireplace, candles or the barbecue, there is a risk that children or pets will burn. Therefore, it is important to pay attention when buying a wall fireplace, which is hung high on the wall, or a fireplace that is equipped with safety glass or can be optionally equipped.

Summary
  • Check burner for leaks
  • Carefully choose place of installation (not in draughty places, not near curtains)
  • fill with funnel
  • light with a lighter
  • never refill with visible flame
  • refill only after the burner has cooled down
